Raja Ampat November 2010

Land of beauty, Raja Ampat..

Back to one of our favorite places in the world, Raja Ampat. This time we got to spend the whole charter cruising around this area. We did not go back to the salt water mangroves, due to safety issues with the resident salt water crocs there, but instead ventured into some new areas and even did some muck diving where we saw mimic and hairy octopuses and feeding lysiosquilla mantis shrimps.

I am amazed at how different sites can be from trip to trip, depending on what critters are hot, the visibility and currents. Everything underwater is variable, even on a single day. Visibility at many of the wide angle areas was not stellar on this trip, but there were still some staggering moments underwater. Sometimes I just want to hang and watch all the fish and schools in their neverending ballet on the reefs.

There is an extended gallery, and a short selects gallery. My suggestion is to explore the selects gallery. There are also three slideshows, one for PC (exe), one for Mac (App) and one for most everyone else (Flash). Please enjoy!
